FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • HOW IS CONCRETE POLISHED?

The grinding continues to the desired degree of shine and smoothness. The process begins with the use of coarse diamond segments bonded in a metallic matrix. The segments are coarse enough to remove minor pits, blemishes, stains, or light coatings from the floor, giving it a smooth feel. Depending on the condition of the concrete, this initial rough grinding is generally a three- to four-step process.

The next steps involve fine grinding of the concrete surface using diamond abrasives embedded in a plastic or resin matrix. Crews use ever-finer grits of polishing disks (a process called lapping) until the floor has the desired sheen. For an extremely high-gloss finish, a final grit of 1500 or finer may be used. Experienced polishing crews know when to switch to the next-finer grit by observing the floor surface and the amount of material being removed.question go to app settings and press "Manage Questions" button.

  • BENEFITS OF POLISHED CONCRETE
    • Low maintenance
    • Bright, clean and glossy finish
    • Easy to clean; the best choice is a neutral pH cleanser
    • Can be finished off with different levels of sheen, from matte to mirror-like
    • Unlimited color and texture options
    • Option to embed objects into the concrete for an individual look
    • Looks great with decorative borders and designs
  • DO YOU USE A SEALER?

Polished concrete on its own is stain resistant, but many solutions can seep into the pores to create a stain, or even etch the floor. A one time application of impregnating sealer is added during the polishing process to line the pores to keep most stains suspended at the surface of the concrete, not allowing the stain to penetrate the floor and further preventing the likelihood of staining.

  • IS WAX NEEDED AFTER POLISHING?

No. The process of grinding and polishing concrete closes surface level pores in the concrete, making it durable, and slip resistant. No topical sealers or wax applications are needed after the polishing process. Polished concrete will save you time and money in maintenance costs.

  • WHAT COLORS ARE AVAILABLE FOR DYE?

We offer a range of color options to fit your design. Colors will vary depending on the age and condition of the concrete, as well as the depth of grind performed.

  • CAN I WALK ON THE CONCRETE RIGHT AWAY?

Yes! unless we are applying a sealer, dye, or on our final polish, the floor may be walked on. It is up to the discretion of the employees on hand to determine how much traffic may be allowed on the floor through out the process. Once the floor has it's final polish, anyone may walk on the floor at the discretion of the owner.

Do not allow standing water, or any other liquid substance to sit on the floor, as it will potentially damage the polish. Clean with pH neutral cleansers when necessary.
